All Red and Blue Listed species in the B.C. Conservation Data Centre will be considered High Priority Wildlife in the BCER’s Environmental Protection and Management Guideline.
DATE ISSUED: Sept. 5, 2025
EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately
To maintain alignment with current provincial guidelines, the BC Energy Regulator (BCER) is updating its Environmental Protection and Management Guideline (EPMG) to consider all Red and Blue Listed species in the B.C. Conservation Data Centre as High Priority Wildlife for the purposes of section 6(b) of the Environmental Protection and Management Regulation (EPMR).
The B.C. Conservation Data Centre (CDC) is part of Ministry of Environment and Parks and collects and disseminates information on rare and endangered plants, animals and plant communities of B.C.
Red and Blue Listed species may be vertebrate and non-vertebrate animal species and plant communities. Categories of wildlife species described in Section 29 of the EPMR continue to be considered High Priority Wildlife.
The changes to the EPMG include: removal of references to the Conservation Framework in Section 5.10 (Categories of Species of Wildlife Established and Species Considered High Priority Wildlife), updates to Section 1.8 (Section 6(b) – High Priority Wildlife), and removal of Appendix D (High Priority Wildlife List).
Proponents are encouraged to use the BC Species & Ecosystems Explorer to find up-to-date information for Red and Blue Listed Species.
