The Renewable Energy Projects (Streamlined Permitting) Act was passed by the BC legislature in May 2025 and came into effect on July 1, 2025. It expands the authority of the BCER to oversee renewable energy projects.

This draft interim guidance provides proponents with greater clarity and direction as they prepare renewable energy project applications for streamlined projects under the Renewable Energy Projects (Streamlined Permitting) Act. The BCER is developing final guidance to replace this interim version and will engage with First Nations and other interested parties as part of that process. This interim guidance should be used as a reference for applications during the transition period. It does not represent the BCER’s final regulatory requirements or expectations.
