The BC Energy Regulator (BCER) is expanding public access to field inspection documentation

DATE ISSUED: Nov. 17, 2025
EFFECTIVE DATE: Dec. 1, 2025

The BCER verifies permit holder compliance through a comprehensive range of administrative and field-based tools and activities, including application reviews, administrative reviews and monitoring, audits, inspections, and permit holder self-assessments. On-site inspections by BCER Compliance and Enforcement Officers are the primary means through which field-based regulatory compliance is evaluated.

Beginning Dec. 1, 2025, field inspection reports and any associated non-compliance notices will be added to entries in the BCER’s online Inspections database.

With this update:

  • A PDF inspection report will be attached to each completed inspection record.
  • If the inspection results in a non-compliance notice being issued, that notice will also be attached as a PDF.
  • These documents will appear as links within the public Inspections database.

This enhancement builds on the BCER’s existing transparency measures. It allows the public, First Nations communities, industry and other interested parties to access fuller inspection documentation, supporting informed decision-making and shared stewardship, reinforcing accountability and confidence in oversight processes and advancing safe, responsible and environmentally sound energy resource activities.

Personal information and other confidential details will not be published, in accordance with privacy and data security standards.

This initiative reflects the BCER’s commitment to transparent, accountable and effective regulation of energy resource activities in British Columbia.
