Renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, and prescribed transmission lines have been added to the BCER's mandate. To support submissions, the Application Management System (AMS) has been enhanced with a new application type and two new activities.

DATE ISSUED: July 16, 2025

EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately

The BC Energy Regulator (BCER) has enhanced the Application Management System (AMS) to add a new application type and two new activities to support submissions for Renewable Energy (Wind and Solar) and Prescribed Transmission Lines, effective immediately.

In May 2025, the Renewable Energy Projects (Streamlined Permitting) Act was passed by the B.C. Legislature, adding renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar power, and prescribed transmission lines to our existing mandate of oil and gas, hydrogen and geothermal projects. In addition, the BCER has been granted delegations under the Wildlife Act for renewable energy projects as well as prescribed transmission lines.

AMS has been updated to include a new “Wildlife Act” application type available on the Create Application page.

Two new activities are also available when the “New ERAA” application type is selected; these are:

  • Prescribed Transmission Lines
  • Renewable Energy

These additions to AMS are applicable only to Renewable Energy (Wind and Solar) and Prescribed Transmission Line proponents.

AMS application manuals and other guidance documents will be updated to reflect these changes in the coming month.
