In order to provide early guidance and information to the oil and gas sector, the Regulator has posted a summary of “Rules for Oil and Gas Development”.

Following the provincial announcement on Jan. 18, 2023 of an implementation agreement (Agreement) with Blueberry River First Nations (BRFN), the BC Energy Regulator (Regulator) and Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation (Ministry) are jointly releasing further information about the Agreement and specific to the petroleum and natural gas industry.

The Agreement is structured to include interim approaches for activities, petroleum and natural gas (PNG) and forestry focussed, with longer term commitments of comprehensive planning processes, which will establish a new balance of treaty rights and healing of the environment with a sustainable regional economy.

In order to provide early guidance and information to the oil and gas sector, the Regulator has posted a summary of “Rules for Oil and Gas Development” on its website.

In addition, the Ministry is soliciting feedback regarding the draft allocation principles (see Appendix 3). Feedback will be received until Feb. 9, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. PST. Please direct all feedback and comments to oilandgasconsultation@gov.bc.ca.
