Working with regulatory partners helps us share knowledge, address common challenges and strengthen oversight across jurisdictions.

Through these relationships, the BC Energy Regulator (BCER) contributes to coordinated approaches and more effective regulation across jurisdictions.

Western Regulators Forum

One of these partnerships is the Western Regulators Forum (WRF), an interjurisdictional partnership among oil and gas regulators in Western Canada. The WRF promotes collaboration on shared priorities, supports the exchange of information and encourages consistent, effective and efficient regulatory approaches.

Member Organizations

The WRF includes oil and gas regulators in Western Canada:

WRF’s Goals

The WRF focuses on areas of mutual interest where collaboration can improve regulatory outcomes. Its goals include:

  • Identify, share and develop leading regulatory approaches
  • Facilitate strategic engagement and communications
  • Address strategic challenges and opportunities
  • Share information and resources

Key Initiatives and Accomplishments

The WRF develops and supports practical tools for use across jurisdictions. For example, it helped make important Canadian Standards Association (CSA) technical standards for the oil and natural gas industry available online at no cost. This initiative improves access to consistent technical information that supports safe energy resource activities.
