Permit holders can now use a new submission type to report a casing leak or failure in a clear and consistent way.

DATE ISSUED: Aug. 7, 2026

EFFECTIVE DATE: IMMEDIATELY

Under section 18(8)(a) of the Drilling and Production Regulation, permit holders must notify the BC Energy Regulator (BCER) as soon as they detect a casing leak or failure. A new submission type has been added to the BCER’s eSubmission platform to support this requirement.

This new submission type makes it easier for permit holders to report a casing leak or failure in a clear and consistent way, supporting timely regulatory oversight that helps protect public safety and safeguard the environment.

Instructions for submitting the required information are provided in section 6.4 of the eSubmission User Guide (PDF). Additional information on a casing leak or failure more generally can be found in section 9.7.7 of the Energy Resource Activity Operations Manual (PDF).
